Minutes of the May 9, 2002 Meeting |
|
Attending were
Boyd, Beach, Davis, Dodd, Farley, Fry, Hosier, and Dick Scott.
Mr. Fry introduced the Copy Center issue that had been discussed at previous
meetings. Mr. Scott provided background information on the Copy Center and
discussed the creation of a copy facility in the new university union facility.
There are plans to also have a small academic center in the new classroom
building. Mr. Scott and Mr. Hayes, Director of Randall Library, have now
reached agreement on creating a multi-purpose copy center in the Library. The
plan is to move the current Copy Center to the Library when Westside Hall
renovations begin in the spring of 2003. Current satellite centers in the
Library will be consolidated in one location thus reducing the overall need for
new space.
Mr. Davis reviewed the draft version of the Master Planning policy with
the Committee. Committee members emphasized the importance of integrating
programmatic planning with master planning activities, increasing emphasis on
campus involvement in the process, and relating the timing of this process with
other types of planning activities taking place on campus. Mr. Davis noted that
in assigning responsibility for master planning activities, the campus must
also assign accountability for completing steps in the process.
Mr. Fry proposed that Institutional Research and University Relations
occupy space in Burney Center that was previously used by Communications
Studies. Ms. Farley noted that personnel in the University Union would need
space during the renovation process and her plan called for using these offices
for Student Affairs staff. Mr. Fry noted that the University Union renovation
project is several years in the future while Institutional Research has a need
within the next several months. Discussions on this proposal will follow in
subsequent meetings.
Ms. Boyd requested campus space for the Financial Aid Imaging Center
currently at the New Centre facility. Space in Burney might be used to relocate
this function. She also noted that the campus is getting the funds to build new
facilities but is not necessarily getting the dollars needed to support
continued maintenance of existing facilities.
Mr. Davis reported that the Swing Space architect is continuing to work with a 75% net-to-gross ratio for this facility. Any reduction in this ratio will make it difficult to house all of the offices scheduled to occupy this facility during various renovation projects.
