Minutes of the June 12, 2002 Meeting |
|
Attending were
Boyd, Beach, Davis, Dodd, Farley, Fry, Hosier, Rowell, Architect from firm
handling Swing Space Facility and personnel from Business Affairs who are
involved in design of this facility.
Mr. Davis introduced the architect in charge of the Swing Space
facility who presented design drawings for this facility. Concern was expressed
over the number and size of exam and testing rooms in the student services
area. These spaces are too small to be used as offices later in the renovation
schedule. This issue will be discussed with Dr. Dragna when Mr. Davis and the
architect meet with him later in the day. Several other items were discussed but
for the most part the design was generally satisfactory to everyone present.
At the end of the architect’s presentation, Mr. Fry asked Committee members to remain to discuss several other topics. Mr. Fry provided information from his spreadsheet model, which shows space needs during different phases of renovation and construction projects. He noted that there are over 170 office moves that will need to take place during the next six years. A move is considered to be a relocation of an office from one facility to another. Some moves will be interim while others will be from a current to a final location. The model shows that at the end of the New Centre lease over 13,000 square feet of campus office space will be required to house personnel from this location. A decision to extend the New Centre lease will be needed at some point within the next three years. Personnel in the Library at Landfall Centre must also be considered in evaluating the need for additional campus space. The model also shows that personnel in Friday Hall cannot be totally accommodated in the Swing Space facility. This does not take into account classroom and laboratory needs that will occur during the renovation period.
