- All Day Meeting
- Committee decided to hold an all day meeting on December 8th at a location that will be determined by Bob Fry. The purpose of this meeting is to complete much of the remaining issues related to bond funded construction and renovation projects.
- Report from Dave Girardot
- Dave believes that we should move forward on the easy projects first
- In addition to the Education building, three buildings were discussed at the last meeting. These were the Print shop expansion, classroom building, and Fine Arts building
- Education building has a projected bid date of June 2001
- Fine Arts building needs to be reprogrammed to remove privately funded performance venues.
- Question was raised about possible future add-ons to the Fine Arts facility
- New smaller structure may need a new site - Architect may be given responsibility for recommending site
- Committee was reminded that Randall Parkway has not gone away.
- New Classroom may go to support Cameron School
- Programming needs to be decided soon
- Electrical distribution plan is being delayed until the April BOT meeting
- Warehouse expansion is being delayed
- Additional warehouse space will be needed for storing equipment while building renovations are completed
- Marine Center Operations Building
- Need to move forward on purchasing land
- Reports needed from Provost and Dr. Baden
- Report on Proposed Computing Center Addition to Hoggard Hall
- David Dodd reported that he had discussed this proposal with VC Tyndall
- Three issues need to be decided about current IT Services
- Will computing operations and personnel stay in Hoggard Hall? - move would be very costly
- Will Westside Hall teleconference site remain in place?
- Paul is checking to see if funds are available to put teleconference facility in new Education building - will know by end of November
- Teleconference Center in Westside hall consumes a considerable amount of space that is needed for student and academic support services
- Will Randall teleconference site remain in place?
- Will telecommuncations room remain in Alderman Hall? - All telecom to campus comes into this site, any move would be costly
- Benefits gained would be in terms of space, better environment for equipment (air cond., etc.) and improved security
- Negative response to any of the four (4) questions will require expenditure of IT infrastructure funds.
- David reported that VC Tyndall did not have any negative comments on the proposed addition to Hoggard Hall
- Roman Kolodij and David Dodd will discuss building cost for 10,000 sq ft facility and how much equipment and infrastructure can be purchased with remaining funds
- Request to move personnel to New Centre
- Bob Fry reported that VC McDowell had requested space in New Centre facility for three (3) staff members
- This request was approved
- Report on moving Research Administration to Westside Hall
- Paul Hosier and Bruce Ragon reported that the move can take place but there are some reservations
- Current available space will not be Research Administration's final location - RA will need to make a second move when Public Service vacates the remaining space
- RA will move ASAP but would rather make one move instead of two - single move would take place in February
- Bob Fry will talk to VC McDowell about delaying additional personnel moves until Feb. - moves include Mimi Cunningham and staff - Mark Lanier will be contacted also.
- Copy Center Discussion
- Discussed original proposal to move Copy Center to Burney Center
- Current plans for Burney include expansion of Bookstore and Auxiliary Services Office
- Carolyn Farley and Bruce Ragon indicated that conferences needed a place to due copies
- David Dodd suggested that we look at emerging technologies as opposed to the current copying and printing processes
- Ty Rowell suggested that we move the current Copy Center to the expanded Print Shop when it is completed.
- Discussion on this topic will continue
- Health Center Location during Westside Renovation
- Moving this facility to another campus location will create a considerable staging problem
- Suggested location is Hoggard Hall
- Use of Modular buildings during renovation period
- Committee continued discussion on the use of these facilities instead of moving personnel off-campus or using a single building as a staging site during renovations
- Bob Fry suggested that a cluster of three or four modular buildings should to in one location
- Committee supported concept of using these buildings and ask Roman Kolodij to suggest sites at the next meeting
- Next meeting Agenda
- Next meeting will focus on renovation projects with special attention to sequencing these projects
