Minutes of the April 16, 2003 Meeting

Attending: Anne Beach, Sharon Boyd, Ed Davis, Heather Smith for Carolyn Farley, Bob Fry, Jeff Hill, Paul Hosier, Bobby Miller and Ty Rowell

Note that Action Items are bolded and underlined.

The Committee met at the Wrightsville Beach CMS property to tour the facility and determine if campus offices can use some of the space during the building construction and renovation process. Dr. James Merritt, Associate Director of the Center for Marine Sciences, led the tour. It was determined that office and lab space in Building “D” could be converted for use since only one office is currently occupied and the remaining space is in reasonably good condition. The group considered the possibility of locating several offices in this facility but did not come to any final decision. This discussion will continue at the next meeting.

After considerable discussion, the Committee decided to contact several campus offices or individuals about alternative uses for the Academic Support Building and King Hall and possible access changes to Burney Center. The following assignments were made:

  1. Dr. Hill will talk with Dr. Andy Jackson about research space being used in Academic Support building.
  2. Dr. Hill will talk to Sherman Hayes about Museum of World Cultures materials stored in Academic Support building.
  3. Mr. Fry will talk to Mr. Davis about modifying entry/exit to space occupied in Burney by Institutional Research.
  4. Ms. Beach will talk to Dr. Howard-Vital about office occupied by Ms. Betty Ann Sanders in Academic Support building.
  5. Dr. Hosier, Dr. Hill and Mr. Davis’ will discuss using King Hall for swing space during James Hall renovation. Dean Seiple and Dr. Andy Jackson need to know as soon as possible for their planning activities.

The Committee will hear reports on these discussions at its next meeting.
