University Facilities

Minutes of the July 18, 2001 Meeting

Attending: Boyd, Bemelmans, Dodd, Fry, Ragon, and Rowell

The Committee reviewed the facilities decisions that were made at the Senior Officers retreat and assigned responsibility for implementing each action item. Business and Academic Affairs will be responsible Friday Hall HVAC renovations and the installation of new seats and lighting fixtures in Kenan Auditorium. Academic, Business and Student Affairs will work on the lease for modular facilities. Business Affairs will work on a development plan and a timetable for preparing the site for the modular facilities. Information Technology Systems will plan for the data and telecommunication needs of these facilities and work with Business Affairs to insure that all needs are met and installations meet the specified timetable. The Committee feels that the university should consider establishing short-term contractual relationships with architects for these subprojects in Kenan Auditorium and Friday Hall. The decision to move in this direction is the responsibility of the university architect and other personnel in Business Affairs.

The Senior Officers have decided to approve the hiring of a consultant to serve as a Process and Relocation Manager for bond funded construction and renovation projects. The Committee has questions about the purchase of the property adjacent to the Center for Marine Research. If the university is not going to make this purchase, the Committee feels that a letter should be sent to the religious organization that currently owns this property. University Advancement and Academic Affairs should consult with the Chancellor on this.

The sequencing plan was adjusted to show the changes in the Kenan Auditorium and Friday Hall projects.

Committee members provided updates on various facilities related activities.
