Minutes of the November 22, 2000 Meeting

Attending: Rowell, Farley, Hosier, Dodd, Fry, Kolodij, and Bianco

  1. First Items
    1. Creative Arts Academic Building and Kenan Auditorium sequencing dependent on determining if $10 M is available in community to either fund performance areas in Creative Arts or increase Kenan Auditorium footprint
    2. Telecommunication equipment move out of Alderman is estimated to cost $700K
  2. Recommendation to rent four modular offices (2 - 60' x 28' and 2 - 76' x 28') and locate in area to south of Randall and West of King
    1. Use of modular furniture in these facilities
    2. Possible use of space for one or more classrooms
    3. Labs will not be accommodate in these facilities - additional scheduling will be used to provide space needed
  3. New Construction
    1. Marine Science Research Center - Dependent on property purchase
  4. Discussion on renovation plan
    1. Buildings will need HVAC upgrades, sprinklers, updates to alarm system, telecommunication upgrades, ADA upgrades (auto doors), and programming
    2. Sequencing renovations - below not in any order
      1. Alderman - No Action
      2. Friday - Waiting on decision on possibility of increasing footprint
      3. Hoggard - Recommend computing Center addition to facility and securing architect for addition and renovation project
      4. James - No action
      5. Kenan Auditorium - Dependent on Creative Arts Academic Building decision
      6. Kenan Hall - No Decision - Programming: Physics
      7. King - No Decision - Programming: Sociology and Criminal Justice, Anthropology
      8. Westside Hall - Expand scope of current architect - include building renovation in project
  5. Infrastructure
    1. Technology - Tyndall
  6. Secure Architects for New Classroom, Print Shop, Hoggard Hall, Computing Center, Kenan Auditorium - feasibility study, Creative Arts Academic Building
