| Minutes of the May 23, 2001 Meeting | |
Attending: Rowell, Ragon, Hosier, Boyd, Dodd, Fry, and Bemelmans
Dr. Hosier reviewed recent meetings with Ms. Walsh and Dr. Howard-Vital about the relocation of the TV studio to Lakeside Hall. This move will take place when Lakeside is completed this summer. The space vacated at New Centre will be used for HR training and Public Service non-credit courses.
The Committee reviewed the current status of the Friday Hall renovation/expansion project. Funds for this expansion will need to be taken from the New Classroom building and from other sources. Dr. Hosier will talk to the Provost about his willingness to go forward with the expansion program by first downsizing the New Classroom facility. In addition to current occupants, an upsized Friday Hall would house the School of Nursing and the department of Physics and Physical Oceanography. Ms. Boyd was asked to report back to the Committee on the status of the Friday Hall evaluation of the projected renovation needs. Dr. Hosier, working with Mr. Kolodij, will determine the size and cost of the expansion project.
Senior officers must be encouraged to be very disciplined in the planning and implementation of all construction and renovation projects. Every attempt must be made to adhere to decisions once they are made.
Ms. Boyd reported that the construction and renovation project manuals are about 85% complete.
After reviewing the process and involvement chart approved by the Chancellor and VC's, it was decided that this instrument should be taken back to this group for the assignment of personnel to project teams. Mr. Fry will take this document to the May 24th Cabinet Meeting.
Training for personnel involved in construction and renovation projects was discussed. Mr. Fry will discuss this need with Mr. Connally.
