Minutes of the November 29, 2000 Meeting

Attending: Rowell, Farley, Ragon, Girardot, Hosier, Dodd, Fry, Kolodij Boyd, Manning and Bianco

  1. Reviewed Results of Nov. 22nd Administrative Cabinet Meeting
    1. Concern was expressed about suggestion to connect Computing Center to Westside Hall
    2. David Dodd indicated that cost of such a move would consume a sizeable portion of construction cost and might result in significant campus network downtime.
    3. Committee again affirmed its position that current decision to add space to Hoggard Hall must not be changed.
  2. Hoggard Hall
    1. Committee recommends that Hoggard Hall Addition (Computing Center) and Renovation be handled by one Architectural firm
    2. Committee Recommends that a new computing and network equipment facility be constructed in the Hoggard Hall Addition (Computing Center)
      1. Review of current facility shows several weaknesses including structural deficiencies (facility not originally designed to support current and projected equipment weight) and security.
      2. Computer and network equipment proposed for new instructional and research support center (Computing Center concept as defined in bond package) can be integrated into existing equipment moved from Hoggard to new facility.
    3. Information Technology Systems should be provided with sufficient space in Hoggard to meet current and projected needs of the division.
    4. Committee will make recommendations for the long-term use of Hoggard Hall.
  3. Westside Hall
    1. Need to determine if Hoggard Hall and/or trailers are going to be used to house the student services currently in Westside Hall. Carolyn Farley will collect this information from Dr. Dragna and report at next meeting.
  4. Level of private support for performance halls must be determined as soon as possible.
  5. The Committee discussed potential long-term use of Kenan Hall.
  6. Committee needs to review impact of each project on the campus. Potential impact of clustering construction and renovation activities in one area at one point in time must be reviewed.
  7. Committee recommends that university advertise for a single architect to handle Hoggard Hall projects and present recommendation no later than the April meeting of the Board of Trustees.
