She visited Duplin, Bladen, Craven and Onslow counties to learn
more about the education and economic conditions of each area. She
was warmly welcomed by key business, civic and education leaders
in addition to area alumni. The purpose of these outreach efforts
were to provide her a first hand look at the counties that surround
UNCW and to explore ways to serve them better. Thank you to everyone
who attended and hosted these events. Our thanks go out to Virginia
Baysden '72, Ron Choate '72, Mickey Corcoran '70, Hobby Green '77,

The African American Graduates Association (AAGA) will sponsor Senior
Sankofa, for graduating African-American seniors at 1 p.m. Friday,

the future" and symbolizes an African rite of passage. Its
concept has been adopted to represent the unity among students of
African descent; a Senior Sankofa gift is presented by AAGA to each
student. The ceremony marks the tradition of students of color graduating
from their lives at UNCW to their new careers. Alumni are invited
to attend and can RSVP to Yvonne

The UNCW Alumni Association was involved in four events during Installation
Week honoring Rosemary DePaolo. The week started out by bringing
together all alumni who work at UNCW as faculty or staff for breakfast.
Their gift to the chancellor was near and dear to her heart –
they raised alumni faculty and staff giving to 80 percent and pledged
to reach 100 percent by June 30. The Wilmington College Alumni Chapter,
the Order of Isaac Bear and the Retired Faculty Association hosted
DePaolo for a "Heritage Luncheon" on April 14. Jervie
Babson ’53 presented her with a hand-crafted gravel and base
with a plaque featuring seals of both Wilmington College and UNCW.
In attendance were many influential former administrators faculty,
staff, alumni and friends. The Cape Fear Alumni Chapter, the Past
Chairs Council and the Graduate School hosted a reception April
14 at Wise Alumni House that drew over 300 people. The program honored
Chancellor DePaolo, and the group presented her with a framed Ronald
Williams print with a plaque noting the special occasion. The UNCW
Student Ambassadors hosted all orientations leaders, presidents
of student organizations and their members at buffet breakfast on
April 15. They presented her with two signed books about North Carolina
and a pair of "Rainbows" so she could feel like a student
again and enjoy the area’s relaxed life-style when the opportunity
arises.
