UNCW IS IN TOP 10 AGAIN
For the ninth consecutive year, UNCW is one of the top 10
public master’s universities in the South in the
annual college rankings by U.S.News & World Report.
UNCW ranks seventh in the 2007 edition, as it has for six
out of the past nine years. Among the 127 public and private
universities in the South that provide a full range of
undergraduate and master's level programs, UNCW improved
its overall ranking to 20th this year. MORE

UNIVERSITY LEGACIES RECOGNIZED
Nearly 100 freshmen with at least one parent who graduated
from Wilmington College or UNCW will be honored during
the UNCW Alumni Association Legacy Luncheon Saturday, Aug.
19 in Trask Coliseum’s Golden Hawk Room. Chancellor
DePaolo will welcome the largest group of “legacies” in
university history.
MARYLAND ALUMNI WANT UNCW LICENSE PLATE
Members of the Maryland Alumni Chapter want to start a customized
UNCW license plate program. A one-time $50 tag fee would
be charged in addition to the regular motor vehicle fee;
$25 will be returned to the UNCW Alumni Association to
support undergraduate and graduate scholarships. For more

FAMILY WEEKEND PHOTOS AT WISE ALUMNI HOUSE
During Family Weekend – Oct. 13-15 – the alumni
association will offer a photo opportunity at Wise Alumni
House. From 1 to 3 p.m. all students, alumni and friends
are invited to have their photo taken with their friends
and family at this historic home. Electronic photos will
be free, and hard copy photos will cost $10 each. For more

FALL ALUMNI WEEKEND
Fall Alumni Weekend will be Oct. 20-22 and will include a
variety of events for people of all interests: a Wilmington
College lunch cruise, a picnic at the Commons and several

PERSONALIZED SEAHAWK LICENSE PLATES AVAILABLE
UNCW
Seahawk license plates are $25 and can be personalized
for $45. For each plate, $15 of the application fee supports
the alumni association’s scholarship program, which
currently awards 13 scholarships of $1,500 or more. MORE

UNCW alumni host a social from 6 to 9
p.m. every Friday this summer at Mayfaire Town Center’s “Music
on the Town” concert series. The Sept. 8 concert will

The Atlanta Alumni Chapter is hosting
the annual Atlanta Braves baseball game outing Saturday,
Sept. 9. The Braves
will take on the Chicago Cubs. A pregame social will be held
at 4 p.m. at Jocks and Jill’s (Brookhaven). Tickets

ANDY WOOD
The UNCW Publishing Laboratory has collaborated with Andy
Wood, nature radio commentator and education director for
Audubon North Carolina, to publish Backyard Carolina,
a collection of essays taken from his public radio commentaries.

has been accredited by the National Association of Schools

FRATERNITIES TO ‘WALK A
MILE IN HER SHOES’
Don’t be alarmed to see some of the top fraternity
men from UNCW walking downtown at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.
As part of a community service project to benefit the Coastal
Carolina Rape Center, fraternities will be showing their
support, raising money and awareness for women who are victims
of violence by literally walking a mile down Water Street

UNCW’s women’s golf program is ranked 13th best
out of 500 programs for junior golf prospects in the second
annual College Golf Guide featured in the September issue
of Golf Digest. MORE
One year after bringing their preseason training camp to
UNCW, the National Basketball Association’s Charlotte
Bobcats have reached an agreement to return to Trask Coliseum
in preparation for the club’s third season. The camp
will be Oct. 2-9 with an intrasquad game set for Sunday,
Oct. 8. MORE
The UNCW fall 2006 athletics season is underway. Don’t
miss the men’s soccer team vs. Charlotte in an exhibition
game at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19 at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
