ALUMNI SOUGHT FOR STRATEGIC PLANNING
The UNCW Alumni Association is looking for 10 to 12 alumni to serve on the Strategic Planning Committee, which will include several current board members. There will also be faculty, university advancement, student and professional representatives. Two-hour meetings will be scheduled every three weeks through May at Wise Alumni House with the possibility of additional meetings if necessary. The first meeting is a seminar titled “Strategic Planning for Alumni Relations” from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26. Please contact the alumni association at 910.962.2682 for more information.

CHAPTER NEWS AND EVENTS
On Saturday, Feb. 11 the Seahawks take on the Panthers of Georgia State in Atlanta. Game time is 2 p.m. Atlanta area alumni are invited to attend a pregame social at noon at Mick’s in Underground Atlanta and then go to the game as a group. Other Atlanta Chapter gatherings are planned for Wednesday, March 29 at Frankie’s Restaurant and Saturday, June 3, at the Atlanta Braves baseball game. The next event for the Triangle Chapter is the annual Durham Bulls outing Saturday, April 22. Tickets to the cookout and the game will go on sale soon. The chapter will host the inaugural Triangle Golf Tournament Friday, June 9 at Wildwood Greens Golf Club in Raleigh. Teams of four amateur golfers will play in a captain’s choice format, with entries limited to the first 20 registered teams. The Cape Fear Alumni Chapter will hold its eighth annual Grand Slam Jam baseball pregame tailgate at 6 p.m. Friday, May 5 at Brooks Field. At 7 p.m. alumni will cheer the UNCW baseball team as they take on the Delaware Blue Hens. Space is limited; tickets are required and can be purchased at http://www.uncwalumnitickets.com. Alumni living in California will soon be able to gather and learn what new things have been going on with UNCW. Two socials are planned for 4 p.m. Saturday, May 27: Wipe Out Bar and Grill in San Francisco and Rusty’s Surf Ranch at Santa Monica Pier (Los Angeles). Alumni living in Florida are invited to socials in Fort Lauderdale at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28 at the Tarpon Bend and in Orlando at 6 p.m. Monday, March 6 at the Bahama Breeze. Assistant alumni director Todd Olesiuk ’99 will be on hand to provide information about UNCW’s growth and success, and alumni will be able to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. UNCW ONE OF BEST EDUCATION VALUES IN NATION
Among public universities in North Carolina, UNCW is one of the top three "Best Values," according to Kiplinger's 2006 rankings. Kiplinger's said schools in the top 100 "are noteworthy for their combination of top-flight academics and affordable costs." For in-state students, UNCW is third behind UNC Chapel Hill and NC State University. It is ranked 32nd nationally. MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS EFFORT TO BE CENTRALIZED
Cynthia J. Lawson has been appointed assistant to the chancellor for marketing and communications at UNCW. In this newly created position, she will be charged with centralizing into one new unit communications and graphic design functions now spread across the university in a variety of departments. She will also lead the effort to integrate strategically all marketing and communication initiatives to achieve consistent identity, heightened awareness and enhanced public esteem of the university.http://appserv02.uncw.edu/news/article.asp?ID=1803
ART HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP ESTABLISHED TO HONOR JOHN MYERS

SEAHAWKS WIN OT BATTLE IN PHILLY, 66-60
Junior guard T.J. Carter scored six points in overtime and UNCW converted 8-of-11 free throws in the extra period to trim Drexel, 66-60, in a matchup of CAA men’s basketball frontrunners Jan. 12 at the Daskalakis Center. The Seahawks extended their winning streak to three games and improved to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in the CAA. LADY HOOPSTERS LOOKING TO CONTINUE HOT STREAK
Riding a three-game winning streak, UNCW heads north to face George Mason in a CAA contest at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13. The Seahawks enter with a 9-3 record overall and a 3-0 mark in the CAA, their best start ever. TAYLOR EARNS CAA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS

SEAHAWKS STORM PAST UNF IN SWIMMING ACTION
Senior Rebekah Teague, junior Sarah Beth Schooley, sophomore April Kerstetter and freshman Anna Hubbard won two events apiece as UNCW claimed 11 of the first 12 races of a 162-127 win over North Florida in women’s swimming and diving action Jan. 7 in Jacksonville. HALL OF FAME INDUCTION TICKETS ON SALE
Tickets for the sixth induction of the UNCW Athletic Hall of Fame can purchased in the athletic ticket office, Trask Coliseum. The banquet will be held at noon, Saturday, Jan. 28 in the Warwick Center Ballroom. Tickets are $15.
