UNCW RAISES RECORD AMOUNT
UNCW received nearly $7.3 million from donors during the 2005-06 fiscal year
that ended June 30. That amount is the largest UNCW has received from private

LEGACIES RECOGNIZED
Wilmington College and UNCW graduates whose son or daughter is an incoming
freshman are invited to the UNCW Alumni Association Legacy Luncheon at 11:30
a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 in Trask Coliseum’s Golden Hawk Room. There is no charge for students
and two family members; additional guests are $10 each. Dress for the BBQ lunch
is casual. Reservations are required and should be made by Monday, Aug.

PERSONALIZED SEAHAWK LICENSE
PLATES AVAILABLE
Join
the growing number of alumni who are taking their Seahawk pride on the road.
North Carolina alumni and friends can sport the Seahawk license plate and support
UNCW student scholarships at the same time. Seahawk license plates are $25
and can be personalized for $45. For each plate, $15 of the application fee
supports the alumni association’s scholarship program, which currently

UNCW alumni host a social from 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday this summer at Mayfaire Town Center’s “Music on the Town” concert series. Charlotte area alumni are invited to a Summer Shootout at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on Tuesday, July 25. http://www.uncw.edu/alumni/documents/CharlotteInviteupdate62806-edited.pdf On Friday, Aug. 11 the chapter will host a social with raffles for UNCW alumni apparel. Just by showing their membership cards, UNCW alumni will receive discounted admission to the 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 Wilmington Hammerheads game. First 50 receive a T-shirt.
The annual Atlanta Braves baseball outing will be Saturday, Sept. 9 for alumni and friends in Georgia. Alumni will gather for a pregame social (location to be announced) and then watch the Atlanta Braves take on the Chicago Cubs at 7:05 p.m.
The alumni association and the School of Nursing will sponsor a golf tournament to benefit the UNCW Alumni Association and its scholarship program Tuesday, Oct. 17 at River Landing Championship Golf Course. Team sponsorships are $500 and include 18 holes of golf, cart, practice balls, gift bag, bag lunch, beverages, social hour and awards dinner. Entries must be accompanied by payment by Oct. 3. Corporate sponsorships are available starting at $575.

UNCW SIGNS AGREEMENT
WITH JAPANESE UNIVERSITIES
Presidents and representatives from three universities in Western Japan and three
universities in the UNC system, UNCW being one, met to formally establish a consortium

KING TAPPED FOR NEW ROLE AT UNCW
Former Bell South executive Billy F. King was named assistant vice chancellor
for economic and workforce development, one of UNC President Erskine Bowles’ strategic
priorities for maintaining North Carolina’s competitiveness in today’s
global marketplace. In this newly created position, he reports to the vice
chancellor for public service and continuing studies and works with university

SEAHAWKS INK DEAL WITH ADIDAS
UNCW has teamed up with adidas in a wide-ranging agreement that will make the
sports manufacturing giant the official footwear and apparel provider for

ATHLETES RACK UP SPRING ACADEMIC HONORS
UNCW senior standouts Matt Poulk, baseball; Michelle Jarman, women’s
golf; and Lindsey Hess, women’s tennis, were named the CAA’s Scholar
Athlete of the Year in their respective sports, giving the Seahawks an impressive
seven winners in 2005-06. The trio joins Melissa Milstead, women’s swimming;
Michael Krayer, men’s swimming; John Goldsberry, men’s basketball;
and Michaela Vezenkova, women’s basketball, as honorees this year in

TRACK ATHLETES EARN ACADEMIC HONORS
Five UNCW track and field student-athletes were named to the U.S. Track & Field
and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team. A.J. Kaschak,
William Mattocks, Ashley McLellan, Becky Edwards and Anna Raynor successfully

DIAMOND HAWKS PLACE FOUR ON ABCA ALL-EAST SQUADS
Former UNCW baseball standouts Matt Poulk, John Raynor, Thomas Benton and Adam
Paul were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-East squads.
Raynor was voted to the first-team while Poulk, Benton and Paul earned second-team
honors. This marks the second straight season the Seahawks have had at least

NCAA AWARDS JARMAN POST-GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP
The awards keep rolling in for former UNCW women’s golf star Michelle
Jarman. One week after appearing in the prestigious U.S. Open, Jarman was named
one of 58 spring student-athletes to receive a post-graduate scholarship from
the NCAA. She will receive a $7,500 stipend to enroll in UNCW’s Master
