Alumni who contribute to UNCW provide much more than financial
assistance. Corporations and foundations look at alumni
giving rates when evaluating grant requests, and U.S.News
and World Report factors the percentage into its statistical
formula when ranking universities. Each gift represents
your confidence in the university and its commitment to
provide students with the most powerful learning experience
possible. This fiscal year, UNCW hopes to set a new standard
for participation by achieving a 13 percent alumni giving
rate. We are very close to reaching the goal and we need
your help to get there. You have the opportunity, right
now, to make a difference at UNCW. Click HERE to
download a
gift form and
contribute to UNCW before June 30, 2006. You may also call
910.962.3751 or 866.468.6291 to contribute. If you have
already given this year, thank you for your loyalty to
UNCW. Your support is sincerely appreciated!

The increase in coastal area population is directly correlated to an increase
in contaminated waters and shellfish bed closings, according to UNCW research
professor Michael A. Mallin. In his article “Wading in Waste,” which
appears in the June 2006 issue of Scientific American, Mallin pointed
to a recent study which has shown that over 85 percent of all beach closures
and advisories in 2004 were a result of excessive counts of bacteria in the
beach waters. MORE

UNCW’S proximity to the Atlantic Ocean is both a blessing
and a curse. The location offers opportunities for summer
fun in a coastal setting, but also places the university
in the heart of hurricane territory. MORE
