COLLEGE DAY IS NOV. 11
The annual UNCW College Day is Saturday, Nov. 11. Classes will be offered in art, communications, history, music, sociology, physics and theatre. MORE

FALL ALUMNI WEEKEND
The second annual Fall Alumni Weekend is Oct. 20-22. Activities include a lunch cruise for Wilmington College alumni, a “meet and greet” at Shell Island Resort, a picnic and concert on the Campus Commons featuring the Schoolboys and a cocktail party in the Fisher Student Center. Complete schedule.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION CHALLENGE GIFT ANNOUNCED
UNCW is proud to announce the single largest matching challenge gift ever extended to the alumni association. Offered by philanthropists Mark Griffis and Dave Robertson, this pledge of a $100,000 challenge is intended to spark new support for building alumni scholarships. The challenge will run through Dec. 31, 2006. Matching dollar for dollar, it is the goal of this challenge to support scholarship funds at any level. MORE

UNCW VS. ECU TAILGATE
The UNCW Alumni Association will host a pregame social and tailgate Wednesday, Dec. 5 for all alumni and friends. A heated pregame tent will be set up outside Trask Coliseum and the Nixon Annex and will include a catered meal with beverages, fun and prizes. Coach Bennie Moss will be the guest speaker. Space is limited to the first 200 people. Reserve your spot.

ALUMNI GATHERINGS
The UNC Chapel Hill Minnesota Carolina Club will host a social for alumni from North Carolina colleges and universities on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Gibbs Farm Museum in St. Paul/Falcon Heights, Minn. Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo will be the special guest at a reception for Atlanta area alumni from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Maggiano’s Little Italy, Buckhead on Peachtree Road. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. Alexander C. Cook, visiting lecturer in Chinese History at Brown UniversityCHINESE HISTORIAN IS SHERMAN EMERGING SCHOLAR
Alexander C. Cook, visiting lecturer in Chinese History at Brown University, is UNCW’s fifth Sherman Emerging Scholar. He was selected in a national competition for this distinction. Cook will deliver a public lecture, “China from Mao to the WTO: Experiments in the Laws of History,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 in the Warwick Center Ballroom. MORE

UNCW ECONOMIST PREDICTS STRONG GROWTH FOR LOCAL ECONOMY
Following growth of eight percent during the first half of 2006 and likely growth of nine percent for the entire year, the local economy of Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties is forecasted to expand by approximately eight percent over 2007, predicted William W. Hall Jr., senior economist with the Center for Business and Economics Services at the UNCW Cameron School of Business. MORE

‘KNOW B4 U GO’ CAMPAIGN UNDERWAY
The UNCW Campus Community Coalition (C3) launched the "Know B4 U Go" campaign to help educate and inform students and the local community about the consequences of purchasing alcohol while under the legal age and the effects and consequences of drinking and driving. This campaign will continue throughout the academic year. MORE

Landfall TraditionALUMNI INVITED TO LANDFALL TRADITION GOLF TOURNEY
UNCW men’s and women’s golf teams will compete against 11 of the country’s top teams in the fifth Landfall Tradition, a nationally-recognized collegiate golf tournament, at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington. The Landfall Tradition begins Thursday, Oct. 26, with a practice round and reception, followed by 54 holes of golf on the Jack Nicklaus Course Friday, Oct. 27 through Sunday, Oct. 29. MORE

Sammy C. HawkTEAM TEAL PICKS UP STEAM
The UNCW Athletic Department is hoping fans become even more involved with the school’s sports through “Team Teal,” a free program that rewards fans for attending events throughout the year. Open to all Seahawk fans, including members of the community, “Team Teal” is aimed at increasing attendance at home athletic events and bringing the same atmosphere and school spirit that exists at basketball games to other sports. WAAV-AM TO CARRY SEAHAWKS
Live radio coverage of UNCW men’s basketball enters its 25th season overall and seventh on flagship station WAAV-AM in 2006-07. All of the school’s games – home and away – will be carried live, with announcers Mike Vaccaro and Joseph King providing the exciting action throughout the season. The broadcast schedule kicks off on Monday, Nov. 13, when UNCW faces Belmont in the opening round of the NIT Season Tip Off in Nashville, Tenn. MORE

TICKETS REMAIN FOR BASKETBALL TIPOFF BANQUET
Individual tickets and corporate table tickets are still available for the UNCW Men’s Basketball Tipoff Banquet Friday, Oct. 20, at the Courtyard Marriott in Carolina Beach. LADY SEAHAWKS 2006-07 HOOPS SLATE
UNCW will play 14 home games, including a match-up with Southeastern Conference member South Carolina, and also stage the Wilmington Hilton Riverside Classic during the upcoming women’s basketball season. The Lady Seahawks battle regional rivals Campbell, College of Charleston, East Carolina and UNC Greensboro in a 29-game schedule that features 14 home games and 15 road dates, including a visit to Raleigh to face N.C.
