UNCW's first parking deck opened
August 2009.
The deck is located at Seahawk Crossing near the intersection
of Reynolds and Cahill Drives, in close proximity to the Education
Building, Dobo Hall and the Nursing Building (currently under
construction).
The deck, which was designed to blend with the university's
neo-Georgian architecture, provides premier parking accommodations
for resident students, faculty
and staff, commuter students and
visitors.
There are 997 parking spaces for cars, vans and
20 motorcycles, including two handicap van accessible spaces.
The 52 visitor parking spaces, which are located on the main
level, are accessible 24/7, with cash payment at the walk-up
pay station. Visitor parking at the deck is free for the first
15 minutes. After that, the hourly rate is $1.50. The visitor
daily rate is a maximum of $10 for a 24-hour period.
The deck also provides covered bicycle parking
and electric hook-ups for hybrid cars.
The parking deck's regionally produced materials, electric hook-ups
for hybrid cars and other features helped the Seahawk Crossing
complex earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The LEED
rating system is the nationally accepted standard for design,
construction and operation of green buildings. Seahawk Crossing
is the first LEED certified project at UNCW.
