Personalize Your Message with Variable Data Printing
Printing
Services now has a great tool to help you personalize your mailings or any
other printed piece. You can change out photos and text
as well as include personalized greetings and USPS-friendly address blocks.
Variable data printing is a form of on-demand
printing that uses information from your Excel spreadsheet/database
so that elements such as text, graphics and
images may
be changed from one printed piece to the next, without stopping or slowing
down the printing process.
For example, a set of personalized letters, each with the same basic
layout, can be printed with your specific customer's name and address on
each letter. Response rates for projects using variable data printing range
from double to 15x the response rates of standard printing.
Variable Data Printing Procedure
- Submit a Request for Printing Services form, requesting variable data printing in the "Other" portion of the form. Order the form from U-Business. (View sample form here.)
- You will also need to prepare an Excel spreadsheet containing the needed data to communicate to your customer. Each data record (all the info for a single customer) should be placed in a single row on your Excel spreadsheet, Each field within a data record should be placed in its own cell. View sample Excel spreadsheet.
- In most instances, you will send your spreadsheet to the Standard Mail Center at mailcenter@uncw.edu. However, there are times the database may need to go directly to Printing Services. Please call the Printing Services customer service specialist at 910-962-3289 to determine where to send your database.
- If your variable data printed job will ultimately be mailed to your addressee, also submit a Seahawk Mail Center Work Request to the Standard Mail Center.
