REQUIREMENTS FOR THE B.S. DEGREE IN BIOLOGY    

Catalog 2008-2009 and beyond      70 hours total    

 Biology Lower Level core requirements. 8 hours total

  • 201 Principles of Biology: Cells (4)
  • 202 Principles of Biology: Biodiversity (4)

The above requirements must be taken early in the program of study and for admissions to the major.

Biology Upper Level core requirements. 13 hours minimum

  • 335 Genetics with lab (3,1)   prerequisite BIO 201
  • 345 Animal Physiology with lab (3+1) prerequisite BIO 201 and CHM 102
    or 325 Molecular Biology of the Cell with lab (3,1)  prerequisite BIO 201 and CHM 211/CHML211,
    or 340 Plant Physiology (4)  prerequisite BIO 201 and CHM 102 or
    240-241 Human Anatomy and Physiology (4, 4)
  • 366 Ecology with lab (3,1)  prerequisite BIO 202
  • 495 Seminar (1-3)  prerequisite junior or senior standing and consent of instructor

Biology Electives. A minimum of 19 hours chosen from courses numbered above 299 and not used to satisfy other requirements.

Collateral Requirements. 30 hours minimum

  • CHM 101 (4)
  • CHM 102 (4)
  • CHM 211 and CHML 211 (3,1), prereq. CHM 102
  • CHM 212 and CHML 212 (3,1), prereq. CHM 102 and CHM 211/CHML 211,

  • PHY 101 (coreq. MAT 111) or 201 (coreq. MAT 161) (4), (4)

A “C” (2.00 GPA) or better average on Biology courses numbered above 299 is required for graduation.
