Welcome to the University of North Carolina Wilmington and congratulations on your enrollment
at one of the most selective and competitive academic institutions in
the nation!
You may be aware that
UNCW has for the seventh consecutive year been ranked among the top
10 regional public universities in the South by U.S. News & World
Report and as one of the top 100 (ranked at 35th, to
be precise) best public university values in the nation by Kiplinger’s
Personal Finance. Many of UNCW’s academic programs and student
services have received similar national acclaim.
In addition, the national
reputation of this university has been enhanced in recent years by the
performance of Seahawk student-athletes, in both athletic competition
and in the classroom. UNCW’s student-athletes have consistently posted
one of the highest GPA’s in the UNC system.
While in Wilmington, you will have access
to a lively and historic mid-sized city in a wonderful coastal location.
I urge you to be a good neighbor and to volunteer in the community,
as so many of our students have done in the past. When you have graduated,
I encourage you to continue to give back to your community, wherever
that may be, and to be an active member of the Alumni Association.
You are embarking
on what promises to be the most rewarding and perhaps the most challenging
journey that you have ever experienced. Your response to this challenge
and your performance over the next four years will have a profound impact
on your life. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I wish you a most
successful college career and welcome you heartily to the family of
the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Very truly yours,

Alfred P. Carlton,
Jr.
Chair of the Board of Trustees
