The chancellor is responsible for establishing and evaluating the performance of a senior management team, which is responsible for fulfilling the campus mission. This person serves as the chief planning officer for the campus and chairs the University Planning and Quality Council. Each UNC chancellor serves at the will of the system president and as such, participates on the Administrative Council. This participation on the council provides an opportunity for UNCW's needs and concerns to be heard within a higher administrative context. The chancellor has opportunities to present the university's "case" before legislative committees and other governmental bodies. In addition, the chancellor serves as an ex-officio member of this university's board of trustees and is expected to attend each regularly scheduled meeting of the UNC's Board of Governors. The chancellor is expected to actively participate in the life of the campus and the greater community. This may involve teaching, attending various campus and community events and taking every possible opportunity to interact with faculty, students and staff in settings outside of the office environment. This individual is expected to spend considerable time meeting with local, state and national leaders in an attempt to put the UNCW message out to those individuals who not only benefit from this institution but who are in a position to provide support to the educational, research and public service mission of this campus. The chancellor takes a leadership role in campus fund raising. These activities range from meeting with parents of current students to chief executive officers of large international corporations. As a member of the Faculty Senate, the chancellor attends monthly meetings, reports on current issues facing the university, and gives final approval to motions adopted by the senate. |
