CMS Research Vessel Operations Group

The Research Vessel Operations Group at CMS was formed to operate, maintain and repair the Research Vessel Fleet at the Center. At the present time the Center has vessels ranging in size from 68 ft to13 ft.

CMS Diving and Boating Safety Office

MISSION STATEMENT: 

The mission of the CMS Diving and Boating Safety Office  is to assure that all individuals wishing to participate in diving or boating related activities done under the auspices of the Center for Marine Science at UNCW meet all qualification requirements of training, experience and knowledge commensurate with the safety guidelines as prescribed by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.


DIVING AND BOATING SAFETY COMMITTEE

The Chancellor of UNCW annually appoints a committee to oversee all issues related to water safety.  Members of the committee are chosen from those faculty and staff that are involved in water related activities and have expertise in their particular area.

CMS Machine Shop

The CMS Machine Shop, currently housed at the Wrightsville Avenue location, is best described as a small "Job Shop."  The staff at the facility has the capabilities of cutting, milling, drilling, turning, burning and welding--working with materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, acrylic, PVC, and generally most metals and plastics.

The current Instrument Maker II, is a Federally Certified Journeyman Machinist with 27 years of experience in several diversified types of machine shops.  There is also a certified welder on staff to assist with shop projects.
