Students in any major may join UAC. It is particularly targeted towards advancing the skills of students interested in advertising, marketing, graphic design, promotions, media planning, and so on.

The purpose of UNCW Advertising Chapter is

  • to promote a better understanding of the functions of advertising and of its values;
  • to encourage advertising professionalism through advertising education;
  • to develop skills, creativity, and individual abilities of its members; and
  • to promote fellowship and free exchange of ideas.

Students Awarded AWNY Scholarships

AWNYScholarships

Three communication majors and two marketing majors received an AWNY Scholarship Award. The Advertising Women of New York (AWNY) Foundation gives annual scholarship(s) to college students who intend to pursue a career in advertising. UNCW received $2750 to be given to a number of students who are majoring in advertising or who expressed a strong career interest in advertising and are majoring in a related field that may include marketing, journalism, English, and/or Communication Studies. UNCW was one of eight schools in the nation to be chosen for this award.

The 2006 Ad Hoc Committee  (Drs. Deborah Brunson, Steve Pullum, Lloyd Rohler, and chaired by Hana Noor Al-Deen) at UNCW for the AWNY Scholarship Award is pleased to announce that Jan Dawson (Communication Studies), Theresa Donner (Communication Studies), Amber Smith (Marketing), Amanda Weekes (Marketing), and Kayce Wilson (Communication Studies) are the five recipients of this prestigious award. Each received $550 to help cover some of their tuition costs. AWNY has also invited the recipients to attend the 50th Annual Advertising Career Conference held in New York City (November 17 and 18) while covering the registration fee ($85) for each of these students at that event.
