Dr. Hana Noor Al-Deen holds the academic rank of Professor in the Department of Communication Studies with the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she has been teaching since 1985. She teaches digital multimedia, 3D animation, mass media, and intercultural/international communication.
Dr. Noor Al-Deen earned her Ph.D. in 1988 from the School of Informatics at SUNY-Buffalo. Beyond her Ph.D. and two masters from CSU-Sacramento, she earned 12 post-doctoral credit hours in digital technology from Stanford University and University of Central Oklahoma.
Her international communication research focuses on the Middle East and North Africa. Dr. Noor Al-Deen’s work has appeared in more than 50 publications and presentations at the international, national, and regional levels. She served as the elected Chair and Vice-Chair for the mass communication, intercultural communication, and popular communication divisions (1991-1998) of the Southern States Communication Association (SSCA). She was a Program Planner and Convention Paper Reviewer for mass communication, intercultural communication, and popular communication divisions (1992-1997) SSCA Annual Convention. Moreover, she was a Consulting Editor for the International and Intercultural Communication Annual (1994-1996).
In addition to membership in academic professional societies, she is a member of various humanitarian organizations such as ACLU, National Campaign for Tolerance, and a supporter of The Carter Center. She is also a member of numerous animal rights organizations such as the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and others.
Dr. Noor Al-Deen lives with her husband and three precious dogs.
