Reflective practice is defined as "A cycle of paying deliberate, analytical attention to one's own actions in relation to intentions -- as if from an external observer's perspective -- for the purpose of expanding one's options and making decisions about improved ways of acting in the future, or in the midst of the action itself" (Kottkamp, 1990, p. 183). [Kottkamp, R. (1990). Means for facilitating reflection. Education and Urban Society, 22(2), 182-203.] .
The Lecturer Society will provide opportunities to reflect upon our own teaching practices while sharing with and learning from our colleagues.
There are three ways to participate in the Lecturer's Society:
- The first way to participate is a commitment of visiting one class a month, as well as opening your class to visitors on dates of your choice. You will have an opportunity to see others teach in a supportive, non-evaluative format.
- The second way to participate in the Lecturer's Society is Guided Reflection through Video. This group will participate in guided discussion, or protocol, of a video from a member's class. The discussion may center on a successful method used in the lecture, strategies for student engagement or evidence displayed through student work as an outcome of the class.
- The third way to participate in the Lecturer Society
in a collaborative relationship between those faculty looking for new
ideas and innovations regarding their own teaching, and other faculty
interested in sharing successful methods and strategies. You will
be paired with another interested faculty member for this experience..
