Send your pre-teen explorers back in time to the age of the giant prehistoric shark Carcharodon megalodon to discover how the North Carolina coast has changed over the years. While time-traveling through our coastal habitats back to the future, Trekkies will experience first hand how the forces of nature have created the coastline that we see today.
Activities include:
- Field trips to the beach, marsh, fouling station, coquina outcrop, Cape Fear river, fossil quarry, NOAA weather station, local TV station, and UNCW Center for Marine Science.
Highlights include:
- Kayak to a barrier island; use shallow water snorkeling to observe coastal erosion; participate in boogie board oceanography; improve your map skills and learn about GIS; build kites and anenometers.
