The QENO Initiative is a joint venture between the UNCW Division of Academic Affairs and the Division for Public Service and Continuing Studies. A community/university steering committee plans and oversees the implementation of the QENO Initiative. The Department of Political Science and Public Administration, along with faculty from the Department of Social Work, the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, and School of Business are involved. The Division for Public Service and Continuing Studies provides administrative, logistical and promotional support.
Guiding Principles:
- All offerings will be affordable and meet established learning objectives.
- 2007-2008 will be viewed as pilot project. Events will be kept small and of an excellent quality so that we can learn from them.
- QENO will be cautious not to be exclusive in the organizations served or viewed as being exclusive.
- QENO will collaborate with select programming partners.
The 2007 - 2008 plan includes the following:
- Professional development – Board Governance; (possible future offerings: Nonprofit Marketing Promotion, Long-Term Planning/LOGIC Model, Creating a Business Plan, Organizing for Accountability)
- Convenings of nonprofit executive directors and board chairs
- Training and placement of (new) potential board members
- Recruitment and training of executive mentors
- Consultations with existing nonprofit boards
