Pre-K Sea Squirts

Pre-K Sea Squirt Logo

Sea Squirts is one of MarineQuest's newest programs and provides budding scientists ages 3-5 with opportunities to investigate the marine science of our coastal environment.

Young children have all the ingredients necessary to make good scientists. They are naturally curious. They enjoy testing and re-testing things. They are observant, using all their senses. They have great imaginations. Mixed together these ingredients enable young children to come up with creative solutions and inventive explanations for the world around them – just like grownup scientists. So, why not offer them opportunities to exercise their scientific abilities?

School Visits

Sea Squirts can come to your school or center for a one time visit or on a regular basis throughout the academic year. We also arrange field trips to several marine habitats during warmer weather. Our activities are aligned with national and North Carolina standards for early childhood and kindergarten education.

Some of the concepts/ topics we offer include:

  • Learning Your ABSeas
  • Turtle Counting
  • Sea Animal Adaptations, what works best?
  • What Makes a Beach?
  • Micro Machines of the Ocean (plankton)
  • Creeps from the Deep (bioluminescent critters)
  • Ocean Food chains (who eats who)
  • Alien Invaders, who belongs in our waters and who doesn't?
  • Ocean Buddies (ecological relationships)
  • Ickyology, sea critter classification
  • Ocean locomotion – how critters get around in the marine environment
Marsh Exploration
Customizing your program

MarineQuest has the ability to customize your Sea Squirts programs. We can do large group interactive presentations or small group hands-on discovery lessons. Our age-appropriate lessons aim to expose children to the different areas of marine science and provide them with fun and enriching experiences based on the biology, chemistry, geology and physics of our coastal environments.
