Must have completed first grade and be 7 by May 1st
Send your young explorer on a true treasure hunt to discover the riches of our local barrier islands. Follow a secret map through the beach, dunes, maritime forest and marsh to find the true plant and animal treasures that inhabit our marine environment. Campers will also be focusing on endangered and threatened species in our area.
Activities include:
- Field trips to the beach, marsh, bird sanctuary, fouling station, carnivorous plant bog, maritime forest, Center for Marine Science and NC Aquarium.
Highlights include:
- Learn how to read a map and compass, use metal detectors on the beach, learn how to use binoculars; go shell hunting in the splash zone; go seining and dip netting and participate in a beach sweep.
