Several Geography and Geology faculty members engage in studies related to the cultural landscape of the southeastern United States and places around the globe. Emphasis is placed on the geography of the "South" as it pertains to cultural and ethnic heritage, the expression of culture through architecture, the history of race relations and the civil rights movement, ethnic settlement patterns resulting in rural enclaves, and various urban issues. Another research focus is the cultural impacts of land use development in Russia (specifically Moscow).
