2005-2008 Formal PDS Agreements

Ensuring Commitment to the Partnership

Formal agreements are negotiated and signed by district superintendents and their board of education president of the 10 PDS districts and 1 new charter school every three years. The WSE dean, university chancellor, provost and board of trustees president also sign this agreement in a celebratory ceremony.

These agreements reaffirm the importance of the partnership goals and the responsibilities inherent in them. While reflecting the importance of flexibility in meeting the needs of individual partners, the agreements also ensure that the program goals are not compromised and that continuity and equity in partnerships remain foremost in the PDS vision.

In July of 2005, superintendents from all 10 PDS districts, 1 charter school, UNCW's Chancellor and Provost, WSE Dean and the president of the UNCW Board of Trustees signed a formal agreement for the years 2005-2008. These formal agreements are negotiated with the superintendents, key contacts, associate dean and the director of PDS. Each partner commits to agreed upon criteria and roles and responsibilities inherent in the partnership.

During the 2005-2008 cycle of PDS Agreements, a new school application process was initiated with each PDS school in our ten public school system partnership and one charter school. This process introduced a total reconfiguration of multiple options for partnership work. These options link schools more closely with university faculty research and professional development. The articulation of these options creates programs and processes that monitor our partner work more closely. They link school improvement goals and PDS goals and provide ways to document clear results of our shared work. Below is a chart indicating selected options of involvement by partnership schools.
