Academic Interests

Professor Byington is teaching in the spring semester only, for the next three years
(2009-11) as she enters a period of what is called phased retirement in the university.

Her interests in teaching and research have always been been focused on linguists and academic writing.  Her specialty in linguistics involves her in the study of theories about languages and the centrality of culture.  For the past seven years, she's been studying theories and approaches to online teaching and learning--while learning to teach online herself.  Writing courses, especially for educational purposes, lend themselves well to online practices and new technologies.

Courses Taught

ENG 304: Writing for Teachers

ENG 320: Introduction to Linguistics
