Whereas, during the 2000-2001 academic year, certain faculty distinguished themselves with exceptional professional accomplishments, such as winning teaching awards, publishing major scholarly works, and making extraordinary service contributions; and

Whereas merit increases that would normally reward the past year's outstanding professional accomplishments are not available this year;

Therefore, be it resolved:

That the Faculty Assembly urges all sixteen UNC institutions to insure that, when merit and equity funds again become available, meritorious accomplishments during the 2000-2001 academic year shall receive appropriate monetary reward; and

That the same provision shall apply to any future years in which merit funding is not available.
