UNC Faculty Assembly
April 18, 1997
WHEREAS,
the faculties of The University of North Carolina comprise diverse
disciplines; and
WHEREAS,
one of the strengths of The University of North Carolina is academic
diversity; and
WHEREAS,
"creative activity" often best describes the genre
of scholarly productivity in faculties of the arts;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
that the Faculty Assembly of The University of
North Carolina recognize the importance of
"creative activity" as a descriptor of productivity;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED
that the Assembly urge the President to
request the Board of Governors to revise the
statement
"The University therefore supports
and encourages freedom of inquiry for faculty members and students
to the end that they may responsibly pursue these goals through
teaching, learning, research, discussion and publication..."
