The UNCW campus master plan for facilities (pdf) adopted by the board of trustees in 2005 is both a long-term vision for the campus physical environment and a short-term implementation strategy.- With the passage of the $3.1 billion N.C. Higher Education Facilities Bond issue in 2000, UNCW underwent the largest construction effort in its history. With its $108 million, UNCW constructed the classroom building, which houses the Watson School of Education, the Cultural Arts Building and the Computer Information Systems Building. - UNCW completed its newest student housing project this summer. Seahawk Landing has six three-story apartment buildings which provides 603 upperclassmen with housing in a combination of two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments.
- The 70,536 sq. ft. Fisher Student Center opened in August 2006 and is connected to the Fisher University Union and the Burney Center by a covered colonnade. The $31 million construction and renovation project was funded by student fees.

- UNCW's Center for Marine Science at Myrtle Grove is one of the most technologically advanced coastal ocean science research facility along the eastern seaboard. It supports research in oceanography, coastal and wetland studies, marine biomedical and environmental physiology, marine biotechnology and aquaculture, and marine geology.
- UNCW's Ev-Henwood 108-acre coastal forest research and teaching station in Brunswick County. The nature preserve is available for public tours..
- The $8 million student recreation facility, funded totally with student fees, opened in 2000.
- NOAA's National Undersea Research Center in Key Largo, Fla., is managed by UNCW. It is the home of the nation's only undersea laboratory, Aquarius, which has undergone a high-tech overhaul enabling it to better study coral reef habitats and transmit video and other data from the ocean floor.
- The Herbert Bluethenthal Memorial Wildflower Preserve, a 10-acre tract dedicated to the preservation of the rich and varied flora of southeastern North Carolina.
- The Upperman African-American Cultural Center, located in the University Union.
Wise Alumni House, a stately historic mansion that serves as the alumni association's headquarters. The house was dedicated June 7, 1997, following repayment of the association's $400,000, three-year renovation loan. - The Campus Commons, a visually attractive meeting place featuring a three-pronged lake with lighted fountains, a network of sidewalks and an open air amphitheater. The 50-foot Millennium Clocktower was a gift of the Class of 2000.
