Crew Calls

Bless Your Heart Productions is looking for crew — 8/25/2009
On Sept. 9 and 10, a group of Film Studies alumni are working on a commercial shoot using a RED ONE camera for Bless Your Heart Productions. They are looking for PA's and maybe some Grip/Electric swings. There are a couple paid positions and a couple unpaid entry level positions worth doing for the experience. Crew Needed for "Church Smiles" — 8/18/2009
My name is Jordan Ferry, I am the Director of Photography for the upcoming production of "Church Smiles", a FST 495 Senior Thesis film. I'm looking for interested, hardworking people, who want to work as Gaffers, Grips, and an Assistant Camera person. We will be shooting in 3 locations over fall break from Oct 2 through Oct 6.

Dedicated Students are needed as crew for "Twice as Bright" — 8/12/2009
"Twice As Bright" is an honors thesis short film that focuses on how to begin again. We are shooting on a Red One camera and are scheduled to film the last two weekends of August and the first two weekends of September. New local action sports clothing company “TextBook Clothing” will be shooting their summer 2010 Catalog around the end of September or beginning of October.  Looking for a skilled photographer with their own equipment, who can take pictures in Wilmington. We are flexible on the exact date and will work with the photographer to come up with the best possible time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: UNCW VISION 2009: CALL FOR ENTRIES — 8/30/2009
It’s that time of year again… It’s time for all UNCW Film Studies Majors and alumni to submit their short films for the UNCW VISION STUDENT SHOWCASE!  The UNCW Film Department presents UNCW VISION 2009 at the 15th Annual Cucalorus Film Festival taking place November 11th, 2009!

The deadline for submitting entries is September 8th, 2009, so get your short films in as soon as possible because not much time remains!  All entries can be no longer than 15 minutes.  All genres of film are accepted, including but not limited to: Narrative, Documentary, Animation, and Experimental.  So if you have an old film you made in one of your production classes or something more recent, now is the time to get recognition for it!

Please fill out the UNCW VISION 2009 Entry Form located HERE, Jengo’s Playhouse, or at the UNCW Film Studies office in King Hall.  All entries have to be turned into the UNCW Film Studies office in King Hall by September 8th with your film on miniDV tape, labeled.  Get excited for UNCW VISION 2009 and the Cucalorus Film Festival coming this November… It’s going to be a blast!  Don’t miss your opportunity to shine!  Submit now!


Beneath the Waves Film Festival — 8/26/2009
Benthic Ecology Meeting 2010

Registration begins November 1, 2009

Announcing an exciting new dimension to a scientific conference:  in addition to the usual posters and oral presentations, BEM 2010 will host short films!  Creators and directors ranging from professionals to amateur and student filmmakers are invited to submit their entries on topics related to marine biology and conservation.  The competition will take place in the beautiful new Lumina Theater in the Fisher Center on the campus of UNC Wilmington.  This is a great chance to come to a scientific conference, show your film and interact with a large group of active researchers and scientists.

CRITERIA FOR SUBMISSIONS:
Length:  All submissions must be shorts, 15 minutes or less.
Themes:  Marine biology, marine research or marine conservation.  We will have three categories for competition:
1) Documentary: informative with a message
2) Educational: informative with no agenda
3) Humor: just for fun

Registration and costs:  Registration will begin 1 Nov 2009 and will close 15 Jan 2009. Film festival entrants will attend the conference with all other participants and pay the same registration fees (yet to be determined).  Check this website for more info on registration:  http://www.uncw.edu/bio/NewsEventsBEM2010.html

Submission of films:  After registering on-line and providing their information, film festival entrants will be asked to send a COPY of their film on CD-R or DVD-R by mail to: Austin Gallagher; c/o Prof. Joseph Pawlik; UNCW Center for Marine Science; 5600 Marvin Moss Lane; Wilmington, NC 28409 USA

Judging and prizes:  Winning entries will be judged in each of the three categories by a panel of scientists and filmmakers.  Prizes to be announced at a later date.

Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist — 8/28/2009
Jamie Warzel is available for film, TV,and commercial student projects. Currently a licensed cosmetologist in the states of NC and CA. Recently relocated to Wilmington from Los Angeles, where she worked on student film/photography projects with students at The Los Angeles Film School (LAFS) in Hollywood and The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, amongst other film, commercial and print projects.
