Greetings Documentary Students and Educators! — 6/18/2009
IDA has recently announced the call for entry for the prestigious IDA Documentary Awards, the foremost genre-specific event dedicated to documentary film honoring the excellence of documentarians world-wide. IDA presents these awards annually to professional and student documentary filmmakers at the IDA Documentary Awards every December in Los Angeles, CA.
Student documentarians have a chance to compete for The David L. Wolper Documentary Achievement Award, which recognizes exceptional short or feature non-fiction film and video production at the university level and brings greater public awareness to the work of degree-seeking students in the documentary field. Award winners receive a cash prize of an $1,000 honorarium, an in-kind award, courtesy of The Eastman Kodak Company, towards the purchase of film stock ($1000), and production of 1,000 DVD's courtesy of Magic Rock Entertainment.
Students, we urge you to submit your documentary work and garner greater publicity for your achievements in film. Educators, please help us pass along this wonderful opportunity to your talented students by including the IDA Documentary Awards call for entry in your email blasts, newsletters, calendar listings, web banners, etc. Please let us know how we may assist in spreading the news.

Cinereach Seeking Young Filmmakers for $5,000 Fellowship — 6/18/2009
Cinereach, a not-for-profit dedicated to supporting and producing artful films that depict underrepresented perspectives, cross cultural boundaries, and promote dialogue, is currently seeking applicants for its annual Reach Film Fellowship.
The prestigious six-month program supports young filmmakers with grants, resources, and industry mentors who help guide their short films through all stages of production.
The application deadline is July 15, 2009. Applications and guidelines can be found at http://www.reachfilmfellowship.com/.
Four winning applicants will be awarded $5,000 and be mentored by an established filmmaker. Fellows also receive production support from sponsors, workshops, career coaching, and industry exposure. Industry judges will award an additional $5,000 to the most outstanding film of the four, which will also screen at Cinereach’s annual Reach Out event in the spring.
The fellowship is open to filmmakers who completed film studies programs in 2008 or 2009. This year, self-taught filmmakers may also apply, but are advised to discuss their eligibility with Cinereach staff before submitting an application. Applicants must also be able to reside in the New York Tri-State area from August through April of 2009/2010 to meet the Fellowship requirements.
Cinereach also has a large granting program for emerging and established filmmakers. There are two letter of inquiry deadlines annually for this program, June 1 and December 1. Grants range from $5,000 - $50,000 for features and documentary films in all stages of production (http://www.cinereach.org/grants/).
Other Opportunities
Wedding Videographer Needed — 6/22/2009
The wedding is at 3:30pm at the First Baptist Church of Oak Island in Oak Island, NC and the reception is at 5:00pm at the Island Way Restaurant. I will need a videographer from probably around 2:00 to 7:00pm. I just want someone to film us getting ready, the ceremony, and the special events at the reception. I would like them to "interview" guests (like getting well wishes and advice for the new married couple). I will feed them at the reception and I will pay them for their services. My name is Candace Carter. My phone number is (704) 433-2740.
MAC Editor Needed — 6/3/2009
I'm looking for someone someone experienced with editing video clips on the mac. Total edited time will be about 5 minutes. LIghting needs to be adjusted, transitions put in and if possible, some background noise may need to be muted. Clips will be used at a conference for two-thousand people and possibly put on YouTube. Fee is negotiable.
