To be eligible to receive Stafford loans, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and be enrolled at least half-time.
Loans may be offered as part of a student’s financial aid package at UNCW. Loans must be repaid. UNCW has compiled a list of preferred lenders from which you may have your loan processed. These lenders are recommended based on the quality of products and services they provide to UNCW students and families. We have carefully considered these lenders in order to provide you with the best possible benefits and servicing options. If you wish to use a lender not on this list, you have the right to do so.
Some alternative lenders may allow students who are enrolled less than half time to borrow also. Individual lenders’ policies vary. Students should check with lenders for specific information.
The following loans are available for the student and family to consider:
-
Federal PLUS Loans for Graduate Students
-
Non Federal Loans (Please consider all sources of federal funding before applying for an alternative loan)
Entrance Interviews are REQUIRED for all students borrowing Federal Stafford Loans and/or Federal PLUS Loans for Graduate Students.
- Students borrowing a Stafford loan or Graduate PLUS loan with the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program (Direct Loans) should complete the entrance interview here.
- Undergraduate students borrowing a Stafford loan with the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) have chosen a lender other than the Direct Loan program and are required to complete the entrance interview here.
- Graduate students borrowing a Graduate PLUS loan through FFELP have chosen a lender other than the Direct Loan program and are required to complete the entrance interview here.
