University Scholarships

A variety of scholarships are available at UNCW. They have been generously donated in honor of individuals or organizations. Each of these scholarships has specific and unique criteria. While some are available to one or more students each academic year, others are renewable and only become available after the current recipient has graduated or becomes ineligible for the scholarship. Because competition for scholarships is intense, merit scholarships are usually available only to the most outstanding new freshmen and continuing students. The value of the scholarship will be determined based on annual earnings.

Students interested in scholarships offered by UNCW will want to view all scholarships and descriptions in the university catalogue. Each description provides the contact area for each scholarship. Some scholarships do not require an application and recipients are selected based on university records. If the scholarship requires financial need, you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before March 01.

Students who wish to apply for scholarships offered from the Financial Aid & Veterans Services Office (FAVSO), may due so between November 15 and April 01 each year. Visit our named scholarships page for more information. Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis with the funds being split between fall and spring semesters. Please Click Here to see more information about the scholarships we offer.

Students who are interested in participating in the Honors Scholars Program may also qualify for scholarships. For more information please visit the Honors Scholars Program page.

The Alumni Association supports academic scholarships to university students. These scholarships are for all students and are funded through the association.

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions offers scholarships to incoming freshman and transfer students. The information is located at http://www.uncw.edu/admissions/newAid.html. The deadline is March 1.

Other options are:

Cameron School of Business Scholarships

Watson School of Education Scholarships

Students will also want to contact their individual department regarding scholarships for their major. Departments will have their own applications and deadlines for the scholarships they are responsible for awarding.

Just as new scholarships are created every year, a few scholarships become inactive due to lack of funding. When you are awarded a scholarship, you may or may not be eligible in future years. Some scholarships are for freshman only. A new recipient will be named every year. Many scholarships require a student to meet certain criteria or re-apply to be considered for future years, other scholarships are automatically renewed. Be in contact with the award authority regarding eligibility and renewal procedures.
