Final Project Defense- Fall 2007 Gerontology's first Master's student, Regina Stidham, will be defending her final project on December 11 from 8:00-9:30am in Morton Hall Room 210. The title of her project is " Senior Friendly Community:What does this Mean to Those Aging in Place in Rural Brunswick County, North Carolina? " Please plan to attend and be a part of this milestone event as Ms. Stidham is our first graduate from the Gerontology Master's program at UNCW. Spring 2007 Senior Games UNCW's Delta Omega chapter of Sigma Phi Omega planned and implemented Senior Games at Elderhaus in conjunction with the New Hanover County Senior Center during the Spring 2007 semester. Events included ladder ball, horseshoes, volleyball, and bean bag toss.
Senior Games by the Sea, Fall 2006 Senior Games by the Sea, the Gerontology Program and the Department of Health and Applied Human Sciences hosted a "Sports Clinic", November 2 from 9-11 on the UNCW campus. The clinic provided opportunity for students to learn how to run specific events and for participants to practice their skills. UNCW will be a partner in the annual Senior Games by the Sea competition in April.

"Adopt A Senior" Program A Success! In response to Hurricane Katrina the Gerontology Program developed an "Adopt a Senior" program for displaced seniors. ith the Salvation Army and the Center for Leadership, Education and Service. Students purchased personal hygiene items and packaged them in a shoebox along with a note to the senior and a self-addressed stamped envelope (Thanks to CLES for donating the stationary and envelopes). Gerontology students from 4 (Introduction to Gerontology, Health and Aging, Psychology of Aging, and The Transformative Power of Menopause) classes donated 55 boxes! The boxes were delivered to the Salvation Army and will in turn be shipped and distributed.
