One's living situation can add significantly to the learning process by
developing skills for personal growth, social interaction, and leadership. In the fall of
1998 we opened the new Honors
House, a 96-bed residence exclusively for honors scholars. From atop
the balcony
overlooking the entrance or from the friendly greeting one gets at the
front desk upon entrance into the
lobby area,
the The Honors House presents itself as a state-of-the art residence
Hall. With rooms prewired for the
computers, a
24/7 computer lab, a
kitchenette, spacious and well-designed bath
and laundry facilities, and study lounges
and a relaxing and inviting social T.V.
Lounge, this Hall has everything a student would need including a
couple of classrooms
that are used for Honors classes. The rooms themselves can express the individual's tastes while being fully functional by providing ample storage. The Honors house is spilt into male and female pods with well attended to halls and common areas. An honors mentor lives in the residence to conduct special programs and assist the honors students with their adjustment to college life as well as the Resident Assistant who is provided to each floor by the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Honors scholars are encouraged to reside in the Honors House to fully participate in the UNCW honors community. |
