The University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for the position of University Librarian. The University of North Carolina Wilmington is a member institution of the University of North Carolina, and is nationally recognized for its marine sciences teaching and research programs, and for its strengths in arts and sciences, business, education, and nursing. The University is situated on a beautiful arboreal campus located in an historic port city within five miles of the Atlantic Ocean. The University currently enrolls approximately 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The University Librarian reports to the Vice Provost and provides entrepreneurial and collaborative leadership in support of the educational, learning, and research activities of the University. He or she administers and provides operational oversight, strategic planning, budgeting, and assessment of library services, resources, programs, and facilities. The University Librarian is active in solicitation of gifts and fund raising in support of the Library’s mission. The successful candidate will lead twenty librarians and twenty-four paraprofessionals in a highly user-focused organization, managing a budget of approximately $4.3 million and a collection of one million volumes, 25,000 print and online journals, and more than 200 database titles.
REQUIREMENTS: An earned American Library Association-accredited master’s degree in Library Science (or appropriate terminal degree) from an accredited institution is required. At least three years of administrative or leadership experience in academic libraries, working with faculty, librarians, and library staff are required. The successful candidate will have experience with on-campus and online library services and resources, budgeting, grant writing, information management principles, and effective fundraising. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, evidence of collaborative projects, and experience in professional organizations are expected.
