Irwin Belk Distinguished Professor of Nursing Education Technology

The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) School of Nursing (SON) seeks applications for the Irwin Belk Distinguished Professor of Nursing Education Technology.  The successful candidate will provide leadership in designing, implementing, and evaluating nursing education models that employ informatics, telehealth, patient simulation, and/or distance learning in teaching, research, and public service.  UNCW is constructing a state-of-the-art instruction, training and research facility for the SON. Scheduled to open in fall 2010, the building will house the Technology Enhanced Applied Learning (TEAL) Center, equipped to revolutionize nursing education, simulation, and technologies to support nursing education, research, and public service. The successful candidate will provide leadership in all instructional and operational aspects of the TEAL Center. The UNCW SON will be positioned to continue its extraordinary efforts to address the chronic nursing shortage in the state and across the nation. The successful candidate should be actively involved in a program of scholarly teaching, research, and/or practice that advances understanding of health informatics, technology, patient simulation, and/or distance learning in nursing education, healthcare, and faculty practice. The candidate should be nationally and/or internationally known for service in professional and community organizations to advance health and nursing care and be the recipient of honors or awards for accomplishments in innovative uses of simulation, health informatics, or other nursing education technologies.

Minimum qualifications include: graduate degree in nursing; earned doctorate in nursing or related health, education, or technology discipline; minimum of five years practice as a registered nurse; five years experience in higher education; demonstrated program of research related to education models using technology; evidence of  using  telehealth, informatics, simulation, distance- learning, and/or other forms of technology in nursing education, research, and/or service; record of scholarly publications related to educational models employing technology; and a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina or by hiring date. Academic credentials suitable for an appointment at the level of a full professor with tenure are required.
