Apr. 8, 2008

The Stamp Defiance Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has established an annual $500 scholarship for a student in the Public History Program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.  This scholarship will be awarded to graduate students who are preparing for careers in museums, historic sites, and historic preservation.

“Stamp Defiance Chapter of the NationalSocietyDaughters of the American Revolution is honored to be able to present this annual scholarship to a deserving graduate student who is studying for a career in Public History,” said Vesta Burroughs, the Regent of the Chapter.

“We are grateful for Stamp Defiance Chapter’s support of our program,” noted Dr. William Moore, the History Department’s Director of Public History. “Our graduates are working to preserve and interpret American history in communities from Mississippi to Minnesota.”

The Daughters of the American Revolution have a long-standing institutional interest in presenting American history to the public and maintain a notable collection of American material culture in Washington, D.C.  Stamp Defiance Chapter, a local affiliate of the national organization, was formed in Wilmington, North Carolina, on September 28, 1921.
