To support student inquiry and skill building, the program maintains a Public History Laboratory where students can practice skills in exhibition design and fabrication, web design, documentary film-making, oral history, and artifact management and preservation. The lab includes teaching collections in 20th century United States history.

Artifacts from the 1970s collection of the UNCW Public History Teaching Collections. Students and Faculty store and manage over 250 historic artifacts in the Pubic History Laboratory collections area.
