How to Surplus a System

If you wish to surplus hardware of software, visit Surplus Property Management System on the Business Affairs Web site. Be sure to read and follow the instructions on the Surplus page for "How to Dispose of a Computer" and note that a Remedy ticket must be entered to to have the hard drive wiped or removed from the system before sending to Surplus Property. Contact the Technology Assistance Center (TAC) to enter a Remedy ticket.

Before Going to Surplus for a Computer

Information Technology Systems Division (ITSD) and Surplus Property are committed to providing the campus with the best service and equipment possible.  It is with this in mind that we ask faculty and staff to contact ITSD, via a request to the Technology Assistance Center (TAC), if they need a new system rather than going to Surplus Property and obtaining a system on your own.

Most of the systems that are in Surplus do not meet the university baseline and are not able to run the campus standard software such as Microsoft Office or other programs efficiently.  Some of the systems have hardware issues and all are out of warranty. ITSD cannot support these systems as they could result in a loss of critical data.

ITSDs efforts to provide a strong and stable computing environment have included working with each division to understand that division's needs and ITSD will continue to do this. One way that we can assist you in meeting your computing needs is through an open dialog. Please contact us so we may assist you in evaluating your existing equipment and future needs and in finding a system to meet those needs.  To do this, please contact the Technology Assistance Center (TAC) and submit a request stating “computer needed – request evaluation.”  An ITSD computer consultant will contact you to discuss your needs.
