To help students with file management, Information Technology Systems has created a file server for student and student organization use. The server, named "TIMMY" has many advantages!
- Can be accessed on or off campus
- Allows students to store up to 20mb of data (about 14 floppy disks)
- Secure - You will be able to see other student folders, but YOU are the only one that can access YOUR files
- Backed up nightly
Note: All requests for the above items need to be made to the Campus Activities Coordinator for Student Organizations via e-mail at activities@uncw.edu or by stopping by the Involvement Center in the Fisher Student Center, Room 2029.
To request a technology resource for your student organization please use the Technology Request Form found on the Campus Activities Web site.
If you can't access your TIMMY folder, please contact the Technology Assistance Center.
Accessing Individual File Folders on TIMMY
Using FTP (works on or off campus but only for personal files - not ORG files)
- Open Internet Explorer
- Type "ftp://studentfiles.uncw.edu" (no quotes) in the address bar
- Input your email username and password when prompted
- Click Log On
- It is not recommended that you save your password as they expire every 90-days (may cause problems after expiration).
- After you login, if you are using Internet Explorer 7 then you will see a list of all the student timmy folders. From here you need to click on "Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer."
- After clicking that option you will need t re-login. Once you click login your Timmy folder should open.
- Once you are FTP'd in, copy the files to your local computer to work on them and then copy them back up to Timmy AFTER saving - it's THAT easy!

Note: You cannot edit folders directly on TIMMY when you are using FTP.
Accessing an Organization File Folder on TIMMY
From on campus or via a VPN connection
- Go to Start and select Run
- Enter \\timmy\org
- Locate and Open your Organization's folder
- Use as you would any folder on your computer.
