Pregnant bottlenose dolphin stranded at Sunset Beach, NC. On May 13, 2009 Sunset Beach Turtle Patrol reported a dead dolphin on Bird Island. Due to the remote location of the carcass a beach necropsy was performed by the UNCW MMSP. The pregnant female was in good body condition. Externally, she showed evidence of positive entanglement and fishery interaction. The stomach was full of partially digested fish and a whole shrimp. Final determination of the cause of death is pending furthers findings by the pathology report.
