E-Grants, GMS, eRA Commons, Federal Commons, NSPIRES, FastLane. Have you heard of these systems? Do you use these systems? If not, chances are you may be using them in the future.

Over the past couple of years, we have seen various Federal agencies begin to design, deploy and implement a variety of systems as a result of P.L. 106-107. Different agencies have attacked various components of the research life cycle. Some have chosen to work on their eRA components for awards, some on payments, some on technical reporting, and some (like Fastlane) are attempting to produce a system capable of handling the entire process in a paperless environment.

Streamlining the grants process has been an ongoing project since 1999.  The Office of Management and Budget working with interagency workgroups have developed six Notices which have culminated in the creation of the grants.gov system..  However, each agency still has its own requirements, forms and sometimes additional procedures.  So, it is imperative that you check their website to ensure proper submission of your proposal.
