Two-Plus-Two NCSU transfer applicants
When applying:
- On the "Tranfer Only" page of the application, under the
section "List courses in progress", be sure to add in parentheses
where the courses are being taken: (NCSU) for distance ed. courses
or (UNCW) for on-campus courses. List any summer school courses you
intend to take if you are applying for the fall. List NCSU in the
"Current/last colleges attended" if you took or are taking
an distance education courses.
NCSU Transfer GPA calculation
When NCSU calculates the GPA it will use to consider your transfer application,
it uses credits from all colleges and/or community colleges you have
attended. It also uses NCSU's
repeat course/grade replacement policy and not that of the institution
from which you transfer. At UNCW for example, students are allowed
five repeats of courses and grade replacements in which a grade below
C- was earned. At NCSU, students are allowed two repeats of courses
and grade replacement in which a grade below C- was earned within
the first 12 months of attending NCSU. In addition, the repeat
must be taken within 12 months of when the course was first taken.
Therefore, for any repeats above two, both grades for the same course
will be used in the transfer GPA calculation. NCSU also drops
pluses and minuses when calculating the transfer GPA.
These policies are intended to put all transfer applicants on as even
a basis as possible.
Most Two-Plus-Two students transfer after two years having met the
above requirements. If one wishes to transfer to NCSU after one
year, these requirements must be met by the end of the first summer
session after the freshman year to be accepted for the fall. Therefore,
PHY 201 will have to be taken in the first summer session. (It is not
available in the spring semester.) ENG 201 can only be taken by
sophomores. Therefore one will have to request an exception and
take it in the spring or take its equivalent at Cape Fear Community
College. Alternatively, the equivalent of ENG 201 can be taken
in the spring as a distance education course from NCSU.
If one wishes to transfer after one and one-half years, these requirements
must be met by the end of the second summer session after the freshman
year to be accepted for the following spring. PHY 201 will have
to be taken in the first summer session as above but ENG 201 can be
taken in the second summer session.
