Material Support (educational equipment, laboratories, audio-visual centers, secretarial services, duplicating services)

 

How good are our secretarial services?

 

 

How good are the duplicating services?

 

 

Do we have enough laboratory facilities?

 

 

Are the facilities overcrowded?

 

 

How well do Student Service Centers support our instructional needs? (Writing Place, Math Lab, Advising, Learning Center, etc.)

 

 

Are there enough funds to prepare educational materials?

 

 

Are the equipment and resources available the most effective tools in teaching in the various dsiciplines?

 

 

Is there enough computer equipment, space and supervision (administration) to support instruction and help departments to contribute to high-quality education?

 

 

Is the audio-visual equipment needed for instruction adequate?

 

 

Is there a need for media center support for each the department, such as creating slides, videotapes, or electronic materials?

 

 

Is the service provided for your instructional needs by the Copy Center adequate?

 

 

Do we have enough money allocated to the purchase of equipment needed to maintain teaching excellence in each department?

 

 

Are there incentives for staff to keep up with the technology and other changes that impact your instructional needs?

 

 

Are the above facilities easily accessible by students with handicaps?

 

 

 

 

Professional Support (Workshops, seminars, programs to improve teaching effectiveness)

Is there an adequate amount of contact amongst faculty in different disciplines?

 

 

Do you feel that there is a campus-wide climate where teaching is valued and excellence is the norm?

Do you feel that there exists sufficient formal training in most elements of teaching?

 

 

Is there a Faculty-Mentor program in which incoming faculty are paired with individuals with teaching expertise?

 

 

Are the graduate T.A.s providing adequate support in your instruction?

 

 

Do we have adequate undergraduate assistant support for your instructional  needs, including copying and any other duties needed?

 

 

 

In the 1990 Self Study the position of Enrollment Manager (EM) was implemented. The responsibility of the EM is "to bring a more coordinated measure of control over the size and character of UNCW's enrollment by creating and implementing programs devoted to two key objectives: recruiting better students and a higher percentage of minority students; and increasing the retention of students, especially through the critical first six weeks of  their first semester". Is this important to our department and is this adequate?
