MYTH: Smart Growth is a code word for no growth FACT: Smart growth recognizes that growth ANDdevelopment are both inevitable ANDbeneficial MYTH: Smart growth is anti-suburb FACT: Smart growth encourages deve lopment that meets multiple objectives in downtown, suburban and suburban fringe areas MYTH: Smart growth creates another layer of government regulations that slows the development process and increases project costs FACT: Regulatory reform and streamlined procedure that improve predictability in the development process are needed to stimulate smart growth MYTH: Smart growth does not sell FACT: A market is rapidly emerging for the type of development smart growth encourages MYTH: Smart growth equals growth boundaries FACT: Smart growth does not endorse one policy or practice.
